The Gymnastics Rehab & Performance Course is for rehabilitation providers (Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers) who are interested in or currently working with gymnasts. Participants will develop a better understanding of the unique aspects of gymnastics as a sport, effective evaluation of gymnasts, treatment and management of common gymnastics injuries, and how to reduce injury risk while guiding a gymnast back to sport. This course will include an introduction to the gymSAFE™ screen. Walk away feeling confident in treating gymnasts of all levels through comprehensive lectures, labs, and experience in a gymnastics training facility.

Course Objectives

  • Understand the sport of gymnastics including the demands of the sport, the culture, biomechanics, events, and skills

  • Utilize basic gymnastics terminology to improve communication with gymnasts

  • Effectively evaluate and treat common injuries in gymnastics

  • Introduction to the gymSAFE movement screen

  • Modify a typical sports rehabilitation program to meet the training and performance needs of gymnasts

  • Select appropriate and effective therapeutic exercises for gymnasts

  • Learn and experience Pilates-based exercises for gymnasts

  • Apply manual therapy approaches and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation for gymnasts

  • Progressively and safely return a gymnast to sport using return to sport guidelines
